Draw Your Professor Event

BLSA’s Admissions Chairs and Social Chairs teamed up last week for a creative, socially distanced event sponsored by Michigan’s Office of Student Life. The night was full of giggles and camaraderie as novices and experts alike attempted to capture the lounging figure of Professor David Moran.

BLSA’s virtual figure drawing lesson was led by Richard Phillips, a former client of the Michigan Innocence Clinic and the longest serving exoneree in US history.  The Clinic’s Director, Professor David Moran, struck a serene pose for participants to depict. BLSA members were joined by the Assistant Dean of Student Services Kimberly D’Haene, and Research Scholar Daniel Fryer — both are BLSA alumni. Richard proved to be a talented (and very patient!) teacher as he explained techniques for ensuring a body is properly proportioned and the importance of understanding shapes. Even over zoom, attendees discovered hidden talents, rekindled love for an old hobby, and de-stressed with new friends.

This drawing event was just the first of many designed to foster relationships between Michigan Law faculty and students. We hope to strengthen existing bonds and forge new ones to develop a more inclusive and connected Michigan Law community.
